Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

Information and communication technology (ICT) are often used as an extended synonym for information technology (IT), but there are more specific term that stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications like telephone lines and wireless signals, computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage and audio-visual system, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information (Wikipedia). In the 21st century there have huge changes on transmission of learning. The world of robotics arises and the teachers weren't prepared to embrace this system of education that the modern technologies are dictating. To make introduction of ICT done will and have a positive intact, teachers must also has wider knowledge on how to work on ICT. Majority of our schools even in develop city, are not equipped to integrate the new information and communication technologies. To on productive result the governments particularly the departments of education are conducting training developing the skills of our young teachers. Acknowledging on the difficulties in implementing such innovations and sensitively on the fact that whatever we know now about the gifts of ICT in education, we will quickly become outdated because of the fast evolution of the technology. ICT digitize analog signals and has the capacity to transmit them over telecommunication networks resulting in the restructuring of radio, telephone, television, publishing, entertainment and computer industries into new multimedia industries that create digital products combining voice, video, text, graphics, images and animations, and deliver these signals electronically (Bane, Bradley, & Collins, 1995). Because of the advances in digital technologies, it is now possible to integrate multiple media into single educational applications. Multimedia application on websites may be incorporated with text, pictures, audio, graphics, animation, simulations, full-motion video, and links to other software or websites greatly enriching the learning experience. There are two kinds of education formal and informal. Formal educations are the institution that is normally administered by the institution, it is physically, circularly organize and certainly it required students a minimum classroom attendance. Then the informal and non-formal education refers to education and program that are offered outside of formal education institutions, including those offered by libraries, museums, community schools and center, zoos, etc. Informal and non-formal education are also being equipped by ICT and connected to internet. Computer nowadays has a lot to offer, there is some publication, writing, or books that we couldn’t find on the libraries, and we can find it on our computer, by simply typing question to Mr. Google. ICT are used for instruction were passive in nature, that is the delivery of instruction did not required actions on the part of the students beyond listening, watching and taking notes. These technologies gave the teachers and students the ability to manipulate and contribute to the information environment. Using ICT students may not only make choices on the presentation, he may also choose topics, answer question, create and manipulate images, make their own multimedia presentation, and communicate with others (Aldrich, Rogers, & Scaife, 1998). Flexibility of this technology had the capability on developing the virtual educational experience. It is an educational experience in which distance and time separate the teachers and student (e.g. YouTube tutorial) who use ICT to interactively share resources and learn. Educations are constructed not inherited or acquired, so the students should learn how to learn, not just what to learn (cf.Forman &Pufall, 1988). Literacy on computer is a must, parents, Teachers should not be afraid on the negative effect of this technology on the younger generation. There are some recommendations, that it is wiser if we put the computer unit inside the classroom instead of having a separate computer room. Nevertheless it might be possible to create outline scenarios and formulate expectations. School and teachers should learn and should be able to design their own educational situation, possibly choosing from the varied potentials ICT has to offer.
